Easily expand your Synology DiskStation with five additional hard drive bays. The DX517 supports 2.5“ and 3.5“ SATA drives, making it a highly flexible solution that can be used for both hot-swap volume expansion and as a local backup destination.
Online volume expansion
The DX517“s additional bays are managed via DiskStation Manager on the host NAS and are ready for use immediately after connecting the expansion unit. Hot-swapping allows storage and services on the host to continue running without interruption during volume expansion.
Hot-swap hard drive bay
The DX517“s hot-swap hard drive bays allow for easy installation and replacement without shutting down the system. The screwless design of the hard drive bays ensures system setup is lightning fast.

The Synology DX517 can be used as a dedicated local backup solution for the Synology DiskStation. Created as a separate volume, the Synology DX517 provides an excellent backup solution for the local hard drives in the event of a system failure.
