Zyxel“s XGS4600 Layer 3 switches include Gigabit connectivity and four integrated 10-Gigabit SFP+ slots, enabling high-speed uplink connections with affordable and reliable network components. The carbon fiber-effect front panel offers a completely new look compared to conventional switches. Beneath this elegant surface lies not only advanced Layer 2 switching functionality but also Layer 3 routing capabilities for communication between networks.

Stacking and availability
For implementing fault-tolerant networks, the Zyxel XGS4600 series allows the creation of a physical stack using one or two 10-Gigabit SFP+ slots. Four units, or 112 Gigabit ports, can be configured as a stack, optionally using direct-attached cables (DACs) or transceivers. This enables the XGS4600 series to offer high bandwidth with more flexible management. The stacking topology, with its ring architecture, provides high redundancy. If one of the stacking links fails, the system can communicate seamlessly through the other link. The XGS4600 series comes standard with two power supplies. This further increases system availability in the event of a power outage on one supply line. Hierarchical business networks are becoming increasingly complex due to the growing communication between subnets. The XGS4600 series offers dynamic routing to simplify cross-subnet communication – even for larger enterprises operating complex networks. Furthermore, the XGS4600 series operates with full Layer 2 switching and Layer 3 routing when in stacking mode. The stackable architecture increases network coverage and network stability, as is typically required by businesses.

Flexible Management
With the XGS4600 series, technicians can manage all settings via the CLI (Command-Line Interface), as is possible with all Zyxel managed switches. The intuitive web-based GUI helps qualified network administrators work faster and more productively. The latest Layer 3 switches can also be managed via ZON Utility. ZON allows administrators to see all Zyxel devices connected to the network at a glance, along with important information such as location and firmware version. To simplify network management, ZON offers intelligent functions: Detected Zyxel devices can be centrally restarted, their passwords changed, IP addresses adjusted, and DHCP IPs renewed. Additionally, it is possible to update the device firmware.

Future-proof
To ensure the IP address scheme can accommodate a growing number of network devices, the Zyxel XGS4600 series provides businesses with a smooth migration path from IPv4-based networks to a full IPv6 infrastructure. This protects investments and facilitates future network upgrades.
